And Jesus said:

“These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on.

If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured down, the river flooded, a tornado hit—but nothing moved that house. It was fixed to the rock.

But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a stupid carpenter who built his house on the sandy beach. When a storm rolled in and the waves came up, it collapsed like a house of cards.”
Matthew 7:24‭, ‬26‭-‬27 MSG

This photo is a fun one because it shows just a hint of my blueberry stained fingers as well as the only two pieces of seaglass I found on a short, frigid jaunt to the beach today. But I did bring home about 1 cup of Nome’s finest blueberries from an equally short drive it the road, so I’d say this evening was well spent.

Recently I’ve had my foundation shaken a bit, enough to cause me to look down and evaluate what it is built on. It wasn’t an overtly pretty sight. I think it might be time for some demolition, moving, and reconstruction. And that sure isn’t going to be easy. But it’ll be worth it.

The words of an old hymn come to mind:

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand,

all other ground is sinking sand!

What is your life’s foundation built on? And it’s it enough to last through the storms?
