Today is my last full day visiting Cannon Beach, OR. It was my first visit back since 2009, when I finished a year at Ecola Bible School. It’s been a sweet privilege to stay in a room with a view of Tillamook Lighthouse from my bed, with seasalt air and birdsong drifting through my open window.

It’s funny how walking the same paths from years ago brings back memories of picking last season’s blackberries off the brambles, laying on a lawn with a quilt from Grandma for quiet time, prayer walking through town, puddle jumping down the main street in the pouring rain, and extravagantly splurging at a coffee shop for a 12oz mocha my poor 18yearold self really couldn’t afford.

I met a last-year Ecola Bible School student at the park yesterday and she asked me what were my takeaways from my time here? 13 years later, I look at my year here as a time to set a foundation for my own beliefs; cutting the apron strings from my parent’s faith and building my own foundation on the Solid Rock.

There’s so much more for me to learn, but I smile as I walk these old paths and remember the stones that were set in place in my life here.

Are there locations or moments in your life that were foundational, with paths you’d like to walk again to recall sweet memories?
