Alaskan Fall 2019

This is sort of a cheating post… as it’s not #NomeLife but is #TheAlaskaLife. I left Nome last year before most of the Fall colors hit and returned in November to snow. But I did get a taste of one of my most favorite Alaskan places during the Falltime – Hatcher Pass.

We get several seasonal/contract workers at my workplace and for some, Nome is all they ever see of Alaska. That just breaks my heart because I look out my window and am reminded that these “mountains” aren’t actually mountains. They’re “Nome Mountains” because they’re the closest we’ve got to mountains. I always encourage my temporary coworkers to take some time to see the rest of Alaska – “visit the Homer Spit, stick your toes in a waterfall in Seward, freeze your butt off in Fairbanks (haha), visit Hatcher’s Pass just outside of Palmer, drive up into the Alaska Range and take in the real Alaskan Mountains elsewhere in the state.”

Fall brings many colors to our northwestern tree-less region; the tundra is ablaze with reds, oranges, browns and even some yellows. It is short-lived, but gorgeous in its time.
