I am reading through Isaiah. I started in December, and while all my friends are starting the “read through the bible in one year” plans… I’m stubbornly sticking to the course I started back then.
Well, I got through all the “woe is ______ country” and judgements on Isreal and its enemies. I got to narrative style writing today around Isaiah 36. From there to Isaiah 39, it talks about the lastish years of Hezekiah’s life, and how Hezekiah refuses to give up in despair over the Lord and surrender to the threats of the king of Assyria. He prays for his people and his city, and the Lord spares them. Not only does he spare them, but he sends an angel who kills like 185k Assyrian soldiers overnight.
Lesson:
1. Do not taunt the Lord, the God of Israel. You will be shown for the fool that you are.
2. The Lord will rescue those who trust in him. The Lord will uphold and deliver those who follow Him.
I got to Isaiah 40… and was humbled. It is beautiful, and is one of those chapters that displays the might and power and hugeness of our Father. I love those chapters, because I realize how much of a worm I really am in comparison… yet the Father chooses me and loves me anyway.
Who are we to declare there is no God? Who are we to say he does not see the things we do? Who are we to think we can go against his will? How does he hold back his anguish and/or jealousy when we choose against him?
What is man, that you are mindful of him, O God?
Psalm 8:
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c]
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their[g] feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
